One of the most practical questions for anyone travelling abroad for rhinoplasty is simple: how long do I actually need to be away? Here's a general recovery timeline to help you plan time off work and travel logistics — your surgeon will confirm specifics based on your procedure.

Days 1-3: Immediately After Surgery

Expect swelling, bruising, and a splint on your nose. Rest is the priority most patients stay close to the clinic or in their hotel during this period, with check-ins from their care team.

Days 4-7: Splint Removal

The splint typically comes off around day 7, revealing the early shape of your results, though swelling will still be present. This is usually the point at which patients are cleared to fly home, pending their surgeon's confirmation.

Weeks 2-4: Settling In

Bruising fades, and most visible swelling subsides enough to feel comfortable in public, though your nose will continue to refine in shape for months to come. Light activity is usually fine; strenuous exercise typically isn't recommended yet.

Months 1-6: Final Results Take Shape

Subtle swelling can persist for several months, especially around the tip of the nose. This is normal final results are usually best judged at the 6 to 12 month mark, not immediately after surgery.

Planning Your Trip

Most international patients plan to stay in Istanbul for around 7 to 10 days, allowing time for the splint removal and an initial follow-up before flying home. Your clinic should confirm a recommended minimum stay based on your specific procedure. Plan Your Recovery Timeline With Us
